Where the Lupo wins

Recoil. The Lupo carries Benelli’s Progressive Comfort system, the same idea as on their shotguns: a block of interlocking fins in the stock that soaks up the shove. In .300 Win Mag or 7mm Rem Mag, it is the difference between enjoying a range session and flinching through it.

Fit. Spacers set the length of pull from about 13.8 to 14.75 inches, and shims change drop and cast, so the rifle can be fitted to a tall hunter or a smaller one. A rifle that fits shoots better.

The guarantee. Benelli guarantees sub-MOA three-shot groups at 100 yards. Tikka’s guarantee is 1 MOA.

We have the Lupo .30-06, .270 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm Rem Mag and .300 Win Mag, all $1,935.00, and the heavier Lupo HPR in .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor at $3,300.00.

Where the Tikka wins

Price. A Tikka T3x Lite .30-06 is $1,145.00, about $790 less than a Lupo. That buys a very good scope.

Weight and feel. The T3x Lite is about 6.4 lb in .30-06 and its two-lug, 70 degree bolt is one of the smoothest at any price. For a long walk after moose, lighter matters.

Choice and parts. Lite, Hunter, Varmint, UPR and CTR, left-handed versions, and a huge aftermarket for stocks, rails and magazines. Our Tikka T3x guide covers every model we stock.

Benelli Lupo vs Tikka: which to buy

  • Most hunters, best value: Tikka T3x Lite, $1,145.00.
  • Magnum calibres or recoil-shy shooters: Benelli Lupo in 7mm Rem Mag or .300 Win Mag, $1,935.00.
  • Hard to fit, very tall or very short: the Lupo, for the adjustable stock.
  • Precision and the range: Lupo HPR at $3,300.00, or Tikka T3x CTR at $2,400.00.

Our take: for most people the Benelli Lupo vs Tikka decision is about recoil and fit. If you shoot a magnum or the Tikka does not fit you, the Lupo earns its price. Otherwise the Tikka and a good scope is the smarter buy. If you want something cheaper still, see our CZ 600 guide, and for calibres, .308 vs .30-06 vs 6.5 Creedmoor.
